Allesley Flood Risk Management

This web page provides updates on flood risk management for the community in Allesley. This is a collaboration between The Environment Agency and Coventry City Council, with support from Warwickshire Wildlife Trust delivering Natural Flood Management.

Project update

Due to Coronavirus the arrangement of Property Flood Resilience (e.g. flood doors) and delivery of Natural Flood Management has been temporarily paused. Further updates will be provided in due course.

Natural Flood Management tested during winter storms

Winter storms such as Ciara and Desmond provided an opportunity to assess the performance of leaky dams and other features installed, such as this leaky dam on Slashpitt’s Farm.

Community events

In 2019 two community information events were held in Allesley Scout Hut. The presentations from the events are available below:

Further information events are due to take place in 2020, dates TBC. These events provide an opportunity from you to:

  • Understand what Coventry City Council and the Environment Agency are seeking to do to further reduce flood risk in the area through Property Flood Resilience, Natural Flood Management, and other measures
  • Tell us more about what your experiences of flooding are and share your detailed knowledge of where flooding occurs.
  • Ask questions of the project team and find out how you could get involved with the project

Natural Flood Management

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust are organising Natural Flood Management across the river catchment upstream of Allesley. Natural Flood Management can mean a range of things, from tree planting to creating leaky dams on rivers – but what they all have in common is that they are natural solutions which contribute towards reducing the impact of flooding and slowing the flow of water.

This video from another project in Stroud shows leaky dams and other Natural Flood Management features in action.
