Reduced mowing for pollinators
We are trialling reduced mowing frequencies in areas of some of our parks and open spaces.
Allowing the grass to grow long will allow us to see what flowers are already in the area and are able to grow.
If the grass is overpowering the wildflowers, we will experiment with introducing different plants such as Yellow Rattle to help to reduce this so that we can encourage wildflowers to thrive.
This will support pollinating insects, which in turn will support birds and other wildlife.
We are introducing this approach in a number of sites across the city.
