A great new range of courses to help parents, grandparents and carers build their confidence around raising children is now available to everyone in Coventry.

Coventry is enhancing its parenting offer, funded through the Family Hub and Start for Life Programme. Today we see the launch of new online courses to help parents feel more confident in their parenting skills and responsibilities.

The Family Hub Offer in Coventry has launched the online courses, which are designed to support anyone who is wondering whether they are doing things right, or who wants to see if there are any tips to improve their relationships with their children. – whatever their age.

The nationally acclaimed courses have been designed by a team of professionals alongside parents in association with the NHS and are part of the Solihull Approach programme which supports parents and carers to build positive relationships with their infants and children.

They are already used a number of areas around the country, including in neighbouring Warwickshire. All of the courses are free for Coventry residents.

All of the courses can be completed flexibly, at your own pace. Each of the course modules takes around 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Each course contains several modules.

Courses include:

  • Understanding your pregnancy
  • Understanding your baby
  • Understanding your child
  • Understanding your child with additional needs
  • Understanding your child’s feelings (a taster course)
  • Understanding your teenager's brain
  • Understanding your child's mental health
  • Understanding your relationships

Cllr Patricia Seaman, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Coventry City Council, said: “This is just a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is raising, or helping to raise, children, from pre-birth to late teens.

“The courses are there to help people, to give confidence and to reassure. You do not need to be facing difficulties to benefit from them. I have already had a look and as a grandparent, I can see how useful they can be in just taking away some of those doubts you can have.

“Lots of parents worry about whether they’re doing things right and can sometimes think other parents are doing a better job. But there’s no such thing as a perfect parent and behind closed doors everyone is trying to do the best they can and learning as they go along.

“These courses support that learning and will help people build positive relationships with their children, which will in turn strengthen their emotional resilience and wellbeing."

The courses, and more information are available at www.solihullapproachparenting.com/online-courses-coventry/

The access code for all Coventry residents is SPIRES3 (this is not case sensitive).

There are also courses for professionals, such as teachers and social workers, who work with children and young people.

You can also access more information through your local Family Hub, or from schools across the city.
