British Kabaddi League lands in Coventry with the opportunity to be a part of the team

Coventry City Council and British Kabaddi League are thrilled to announce that the league is coming to Coventry.

As part of this exciting venture, the league will be establishing a new Coventry-based team with a city-themed name, complete with a bespoke kit and logo. 

British Kabaddi League will be taking place from 3-5 May 2024 with the event being hosted at Centre AT7.   

Trials to be a part of Coventry’s team will take place on 10 February, 12.30pm-2.30pm at Centre AT7.  

Kabaddi enthusiasts and sports fans in Coventry can look forward to witnessing the birth of the Coventry kabaddi team who will proudly represent the city on the national stage.   

The league's expansion to Coventry is a testament to the city's vibrant sporting culture and its commitment to fostering diverse sporting opportunities for its residents.  

To kick off this new chapter, the British Kabaddi League will actively engage with local communities in Coventry, aiming to unearth hidden talent and provide aspiring kabaddi players with the chance to join the newly formed team.   

Representatives from the league will be heading out to various neighbourhoods, organising events and conducting talent searches to identify individuals who have the potential to make a mark in the world of kabaddi.  

All matches that the Coventry kabaddi team take part in will be broadcast live on BBC iPlayer.   

Competition in the West Midlands promises to be fierce with the addition of Coventry adding a new layer of excitement to the league. The British Kabaddi League continues to grow in popularity, and Coventry's inclusion is a significant step towards making kabaddi more accessible and inclusive for communities across the region.  

Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member, Public Health and Sport, expressed enthusiasm about the league's expansion into Coventry: "The introduction of the British Kabaddi League to Coventry is a fantastic development for our city. This initiative not only provides a platform for our residents to engage in a thrilling sport, but also contributes to the rich sporting culture in the city that we hope to make even more diverse.   

“We look forward to welcoming the league and the new Coventry team with open arms and wish them every success in the upcoming season."  

The Coventry kabaddi team will take the sport both to schools and communities around the city.
