Coventry’s new sexual health service was formally launched at a stakeholder open day last week.
A new clinic has opened in West Orchards Shopping Centre, opposite the Coventry City FC shop. Around 40 stakeholders attended the open day and had a tour of the services on offer.
Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet member for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing, cut the ribbon to open the Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Health Hub, joined by Director of Public Health, Allison Duggal.
The clinic will also host other organisations - including stop smoking services.
The service offers a range of support including:
- HIV testing and treatment
- Testing and treatment for all sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia - with tests available both in clinic and via online ordering.
- Contraception, including long-acting reversible contraception like coils and implants
- Emergency contraception, available both in clinic and online
- Provision of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to high-risk groups
- Advice, guidance and education on safe sex, reducing the risk of getting an STI, and contraception choices.
The service is delivered by HCRG Care Group which also operates the Coventry Walk-In Health Centre and GP services (including the Anchor Centre and Meridian Practice).
All HCRG sexual health services are rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by CQC.
The Sexual Health Hub operates across Coventry and Warwickshire, and has fixed clinics in Chapel Street in Rugby, Bath Street in Leamington and Newdegate Street in Nuneaton. Other sites and outreach around the subregion are under development.
