Work is progressing at pace on the renovation of Woodlands School, with the project now seven months into its construction phase since works began in January 2025.

The scheme, being delivered by Coventry City Council in partnership with Clegg Construction, will transform the existing site to create a modern, high-quality learning environment that will serve pupils for generations to come.

Over recent months, internal works have gathered momentum, with teams of partitioners, plumbers and electricians on site, and plastering due to start shortly. Joinery and decorating works are scheduled to follow as the project continues to meet key milestones.

As the school term ended in July, pupils, staff, Woodlands Ward Councillors and officers at Coventry City Council came together to celebrate the installation of a new mural at the site entrance. Designed by students themselves, the colourful artwork offers a warm welcome to all visitors and serves as a reminder of who this project is for – the young people of today and tomorrow.

By involving pupils in the project, the renovation team has been able to give them a personal connection to their new school, offer an insight into the construction industry, and enable them to play a positive role in the changes taking place around them.

Councillor Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: "This renovation is about more than bricks and mortar – it’s about building a space where children can thrive. It’s fantastic to see pupils contributing to the project through their own artwork and gaining a sense of pride in their school’s future."

Outside, the new car park areas are taking shape, with the final surfacing due soon. Inside, walls are going up, services and ventilation are being installed, and fire protection works are almost complete. Roof and fascia repairs are also underway, ensuring the buildings stay watertight for years to come.

The project reflects Coventry City Council’s commitment to preserving and enhancing educational facilities, ensuring they are fit for the future while retaining the character and heritage of the site.

The new school is due to be completed in 2026.
