After three days of sporting competition on the international stage, Team Coventry has returned home after representing the city at the International Children’s Games in Tallinn, Estonia last week.

The team was formed by 18 young athletes aged 12-15 who went through a selection process.

The athletes competed in girls’ football, swimming and judo during the competition which took place from 5 – 7 August 2025.

The athletes brought home 2 bronze medals from Estonia. Kieret Bassi, who took part in the Judo competition, won an individual bronze and worked with other judo athletes from across the world to win a team bronze.

The girls’ football team were supported by partners, Sky Blues in the Community, who provided a Coventry City Football Club kit as well as coaching expertise. Judo athletes were coached by Olympic bronze medallist, and current Team GB athlete Chelsie Giles, who passed on all her knowledge and experience from Olympic Games and international competitions.

Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader at Coventry City Council attended the event to support the athletes. He said: “It was a real privilege to travel to Estonia with Team Coventry. Having supported the team for many years, it was an honour to attend as the city representative, and to cheer on our incredible athletes.

“Every medal won was thoroughly deserved. Each of our young athletes gave their all and represented Coventry with pride, skill, and determination.

“The International Children’s Games offer a fantastic platform for young athletes from our city, giving them the chance to experience international competition at world-class venues. I’m very much looking forward to celebrating their achievements in the near future.”
