Ford's Hospital, Coventry

From Friday 12 - Sunday 21 September 2025, venues across Coventry will open their doors to the public as the city celebrates Heritage Open Days.

Over 50 venues across the city will offer behind-the-scenes access, inviting the public to enjoy free tours, events, and activities. It’s a unique opportunity to discover Coventry’s rich history, heritage, and culture from new and unexpected perspectives.

In line with this year’s national theme of ‘Architecture’, Coventry will highlight some of its most remarkable historic landmarks. Highlights include the only surviving gates of the medieval city wall, the Grade I listed Ford’s Hospital, and the 14th-century ruins of Bagot’s Castle.

Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council and Cabinet Member for Events said: “Our city has proudly supported Heritage Open Days for many years as a highlight in our cultural events programme, and we are delighted to be part of this event once again.

“We take great pride in calling Coventry our home and it really does have so much to offer. From Priory Row Cottages to the Kingsfield Orchard, we hope you will discover new places or expand your knowledge about our wonderful city.

“Best of all, the venues and events that are part of programme offer free entry during Heritage Open Days.”

Highlights of the programme includes a micro exhibition that showcases the women who wove the largest tapestry in the UK, free activities and workshops at the River Festival Coventry and the chance to see a specially commissioned film telling the history of the Priory Visitor Centre.

Councillor Naeem Akhtar, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities said: “Heritage Open Days is a fantastic celebration of Coventry’s rich legacy and culture, offering a chance for everyone to engage with the history and heritage that has shaped our city.

“I am particularly proud of how these events showcase the diversity of Coventry’s past, from the treasures held in our archives and museums to the inspiring creativity of our arts community.

“This year’s focus on architecture shines a light on Coventry’s remarkable historic landmarks, which serve as living reminders of our city’s resilience and spirit. Heritage Open Days connects us with these places and brings our communities together, inspiring a shared sense of pride and belonging. I encourage everyone to take part, explore these hidden places, and discover something new about our city.”
