The highly anticipated Children’s Mile is set to return to Coventry’s War Memorial Park this summer.
This offers an exciting opportunity for local school children to get active and enjoy the outdoors.
This inclusive event that will take place on Sunday 14 June features a fully accessible, one-mile route designed to encourage participation from students, teachers and staff from primary schools across Coventry.
The Children’s Mile is a fun and supporting environment where participants can choose to walk, jog, wheel or run the route at their own pace, and last year, 1,045 young people from across 33 schools took part.
Each participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt, certificate and goodies to celebrate their achievement.
Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: "It's great news that the Children’s Mile is returning this summer. We’re hoping even more schools will join in this year.
"Initiatives like this are fantastic for our young people, offering an inclusive opportunity to get active while exploring the city's fantastic War Memorial Park.
"Inclusive events like this help to inspire a love for physical activity as we prepare for yet another fantastic summer of sport in Coventry.”
By encouraging schools, families and the local community to come together, the Children’s Mile encourages healthy habits while showcasing the importance of staying active and enjoying one of Coventry’s beautiful parks.
Coventry’s School Games Organisers, Danny Kingham and Stuart Davoile, added: "We’re incredibly excited for this year’s Children’s Mile. Our goal is to have more schools than ever participate in this fantastic initiative, which is open to all primary schools all over the city.
"We encourage students and staff at our schools to join in and take part in the one-mile route. We also want to see as many parents and supporters there as possible, cheering on the children."
Entry will be split into phases this year with an early bird offer being in place to encourage an earlier sign up and discounts for participants, with the entry cost starting at £8.
Early Bird Window: 23 February – 12 April
Window Two: 3 April – 3 May
Final Window: 4 May – 24 May
Those wishing to take part must sign up through their school. Questions about participating in the event should be sent to covsport@coventry.gov.uk.
