A joint statement from Coventry City Football Club, West Midlands Police and Coventry City Council
“This could be the night Coventry City return to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years – and we want every Sky Blue fan to be part of a moment the city will never forget.
“We know how much this means. A quarter of a century of passion, loyalty and heartbreak has brought us to this point, and the pride we all feel is immense.
“But we're asking everyone to celebrate in a way that reflects the best of our city.
“Last weekend, some of the celebrations around the city centre went further than they should have. We understand the emotion – but there were incidents that put people at risk, and which cast a shadow over what should be a purely joyful occasion.
“West Midlands Police will have a presence across Coventry this weekend. Officers are there to help you celebrate safely, but they will also take action where behaviour puts others in danger or causes damage to property. The football club will take action too.
“Our message is simple: enjoy every moment – but know the line.
“Come together, sing your hearts out, and make this a night the city is proud of. Play Up Sky Blues.”
