The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have issued two Heat-Health Alerts for our region.
An Amber alert is currently in place, with a Red alert coming into effect at 1am on Wednesday 24 June.
High temperatures can pose serious risks, particularly for older people, young children, and those with existing health conditions. Please take extra care over the coming days.
Health professionals recommend:
- Stay hydrated - drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid excessive caffeine or alcohol
- Walk in the shade, apply suncream and wear a wide-brimmed hat, if you have to go out in the heat
- Never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals
- Keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun
- Check medicines can be stored according to the instructions on the packaging
- Be careful around large bodies of water. Open water swimming can be dangerous. Please pay close attention to local signs and only swim in Lifeguarded areas.
Further advice can be found on the UKHSA website.
Support available in Coventry
- Rough Sleeper Outreach teams are checking on people sleeping rough and offering water, suncream, and support. Shelter is available for rough sleepers at Steps for Change and the Harnall Lifehouse.
- Libraries across the city are open as cool, shaded spaces where residents can rest and access drinking water. You can find your nearest library on our website.
Council services
All Council services are currently running as normal. However, bin collections will start earlier at 6am. We recommend you put your bin out the night before your collection day.
This page will be updated throughout the week as the situation develops.
