Every child deserves the chance to thrive. Yet too many children and families in Coventry are facing the challenges of poverty, impacting their health, education and future opportunities.
Last week, the Council hosted a child poverty workshop, bringing together partners from across Coventry to strengthen collaboration, share evidence and insight, and identify opportunities for collective action in improving outcomes for children and families.
The workshop focused on agreeing priorities that can help improve the lives of children and families. These priorities will help shape a city-wide strategy to reduce child poverty and ensure help reaches the people that need support.
As part of the workshop, attendees heard from Allison Duggal, Director of Public Health at Coventry City Council, Emma Bates from Central England Law Centre and more. They spoke about why tackling child poverty matters and the difference that effective support can make to children, families and communities across Coventry.
The event also highlighted the importance of listening to the experiences of local people and the organisations supporting them every day. Beki Habberley, also shared her lived experience of growing up in child poverty.
