Coventry will once again mark Remembrance this month with a series of events that honour those who lost their lives and remember their sacrifice.
This year’s annual Remembrance Service and Parade will take place on Sunday 8 November, beginning at 10.30am at The Cenotaph in the War Memorial Park.
All are invited to the service, which will be led by The Right Reverend Sophie Jelley, Bishop of Coventry. The service will honour and pay respect to those who lost their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts throughout the world.
In the afternoon, the city’s civic party will take part in a short service at the Garden of Remembrance and Civilian Monument in London Road Cemetery. This will take place at 3pm and, again, all are welcome to attend.
West Orchards Shopping Centre will also host a Poppy Drop on Wednesday 11 November, beginning at 10.45am on Level 3. Veterans and guests will observe the two-minute silence at 11am as 4,000 poppies fall from the centre’s dome.
Councillor John McNicholas, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Cohesion, said:
“Remembrance Sunday is a chance for us all to pause and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in wars and armed conflicts.
"It is always moving to see people from across the city come together to remember their sacrifice and show their support for veterans, serving personnel and their families.
"It also offers us a chance to reflect on our history as a city. Coventry is known as a city of peace and reconciliation, and that legacy continues to shape our communities and inspire our commitment to peace today.”
