Houses in multiple occupation (HMOs)

Planning permission is needed when there will be more than 6 residents (individuals not a family) living together in a house,  unless the site falls within the wards of Cheylesmore, Earlsdon, Foleshill, Lower Stoke, Radford, Sherbourne, St. Michaels, Upper Stoke, Tile Hill and Canley (parts formerly Westwood) or Whoberley (the Article 4 area), in which case an HMO for any number of occupants will require planning permission.
