Public attendance at Council meetings

Coventry City Council is an open and transparent local authority and encourages public attendance at meetings. However, in line with Government and City Council Covid guidelines, there is currently reduced public access to meetings to manage numbers attending safely.

To enable the public to view meetings whilst there is reduced public access, where it is anticipated there will be high volumes of public interest, some meetings  (such as Planning Committee) will be live streamed and can be viewed by pasting the relevant links identified on agendas into browsers. If you are able to view on-line, please consider this option first to help us manage public access.

Where public speakers are permitted, alternative arrangements to attending in person are available and Governance Services Officers can advise on this.

The number of members of the public who can be safely accommodated at each meeting will be dealt with on an individual basis, taking into account factors such as size of the membership and room capacity.

If you wish to attend in person, you are requested to contact the Governance Services Officers whose details are included on the meeting agenda in order to discuss arrangements. If you attend the meeting without contacting us in advance, there may not be a place available for you.

You should not attend a meeting in person if:

  • you have coronavirus symptoms: a high temperature, loss or change to sense of smell or taste, a new continuous cough.
  • if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or are waiting for a test result.
  • if you have been instructed by the NHS to self-isolate.
  • you have recently returned from travel abroad and should be either self-isolating or quarantining.

Keeping meetings, employees and visitors safe

Additional cleaning is in place to keep visitors and our staff safe.

When you attend the meeting, keep yourself and others safe by following the Government’s hands-face-space guidance at all times.

Our safety measures require:

  • wearing a face covering, unless exempt.
  • maintaining social distancing from others.
  • using the hand sanitiser provided upon entrance to and exit from the meeting room.
  • following directional signage on entry and exit from the meeting room and throughout the building.
  • keeping open windows open – this is to ensure ventilation and minimise the risk of COVID transmission. Please bear this in mind when attending meetings as extra clothing may be required.

Please inform Governance Services Officers if you have any mobility issues prior to the meeting, to enable suitable arrangements to be put in place.

Getting tested

We encourage all Coventry residents to take part in any community testing programme that is available locally.

Although you may not have any symptoms, we strongly encourage you to take a lateral flow test prior to your attendance at the meeting, either via a home test or at one of the community testing centres.

If you choose to have a test and test positive, do not come to the meeting. If you have had confirmation of your attendance at the meeting, please inform the Governance Services Officers whose contact details are listed on the meeting agenda.
