Cycle to Work scheme
The Cycle to Work scheme is a UK Government tax exemption initiative introduced in the Finance Act 1999 to promote healthier journeys to work and to reduce environmental pollution. It allows employers to loan cycles and cyclists' safety equipment to employees as a tax-free benefit. At Coventry we work in partnership with ‘Vivup’ our health and wellbeing partner, employees could save up to 37% on the latest bikes and accessories for their commute to work.
Loan bikes
We have a limited number of pool bikes available to loan out for one month. When staff borrow a bike, they also receive all the typical accessories they might need, including a helmet, bag, bike lock and lights.
At the end of your loan period staff just have to return the bike and accessories.
Free cycle training
We offer all our employees free cycle training.
Cycle parking for employees
We offer cycle parking for employees at the following city centre locations (own lock required):
- Council House (rear courtyard). Showers and changing facilities also available.
- One Friargate (basement). Showers and changing facilities are also available.
Bike Shop
Through our partnership with Vivup, employees are able to access the largest range of bikes over £1,000 and accessories in the UK from leading cycling brands. This includes a wide range of products not available through our Cycle to Work employee benefit, giving employees greater choice and flexibility.
Car park passes
Car park passes are issued to those employees and agency workers who meet the criteria for a pass to carry out their duties.
Travelcards
The Council provides an annual travel card scheme, a cleaner, greener and cheaper way of getting to work. Issues take place quarterly in February, May, August and November each year and are open to all Coventry City Council employees. Deductions from salaries are spread in equal instalments over 12 months and start the month after employees collect their new pass.

Car Scheme
We offer a Car Scheme employee benefit from our employee benefits provider ‘Vivup’, in partnership with Tusker. Tusker is committed to reducing emissions and moving towards sustainable transport and have been a carbon neutral organisation for over 10 years. Tusker is a founding member of the EV100 (a group of organisations accelerating the move to zero emissions) and have multiple awards for their commitment to the environment, having offset over 200,000 tonnes of carbon through various verified carbon offsetting projects overseas and in the UK.
A fixed monthly amount is taken directly from gross salary and in return, staff get the use of a brand new car. Benefit in Kind is 1% on zero-emission models in 2021-22, rising to 2% in 2022-23, and then remaining at 2% until April 2025. This means that pure electric models are more affordable through the scheme.
