We carry out the statutory function of checking and processing eligibility for free school meals (FSM) on behalf of schools.

Using our end-to-end processing of applications for free school meals made via various channels and access to HMRC’s Eligibility Checking Service Processing system, we are able to maximise the free school meal eligibility of your school directly impacting the number of pupils who will attract Pupil Premium Grant funding at your school.

Where eligibility cannot be confirmed, we will follow up claims to seek confirmation of eligibility and will maintain and update the records database for free school meal applicants by reviewing the continuing eligibility of parents.

We will also provide access to an online self-service portal where schools can check eligibility in real time.

Free School Meal Administration review - December 2025

The Benefits service has completed a review of schools accessing our Free School Meal portal and cross-referenced this against schools that have paid into this service.

We have contacted schools by email where we believe a payment has not been made for the year 2025-2026. If a payment is not made urgently, we will revoke access to the School Portal, and no further school queries will be answered until this payment is received.
