Coventry Family Valued: Our Practice Approach

Coventry Children’s Services introduced Family Valued in 2021 to strengthen the way we work with families by building better relationships with children and their families. Since then, we have been on a journey to embed the approach across all our work and, while we are proud of all we have done so far, we know there is still more to achieve.

What is Coventry Family Valued?

More than what we do, Coventry Family Valued is our way of being! We champion restorative, relational and strength-based practice, relentlessly focusing on working with families, rather than doing to or for them.

We strive to be a service where families are valued, where risks are managed with the family, and where families are empowered and enabled to make change. We believe that families are the experts in their own lives, and we want to embrace this and create change through it; by families taking the lead in their plans, in their support package and in decision making.

We are proud of the diversity in Coventry, and are committed to working with children, young people and their families from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that we are always championing inclusivity. We know that many of the children, young people and families that we work with will have experienced discrimination, and we are committed to advocating for children and working with all families in an anti-discriminatory and anti-racist manner, always taking into consideration their needs and experiences of services.
