Adult Social Care Organisational Health Check 2024/25

These are the findings of the Adult Social Care Organisation Healthcheck. The Survey was last undertaken in 2022.

82 respondents (83 in 2022, 92 in 2019, 80 in 2017): 

  • 36 (44%) social worker
  • 35 (43%) social care professionals
  • 11 (13%) occupational therapists

40% have worked for the Council for over 10 years (52% in 2022).  18% are new employees with less than 2 years' service (13% in 2022, 27% in 2019), 16% have 2-5 years service (20% in 2022) and 26% have 5-10 years service.  The vast majority of respondents (98%) are on a permanent contract.

  • 9 out of 10 respondents agree with the statement “I have access to best practice, research and evidence materials"

18% of respondents felt that they spent 80% or more of their time inputting into Care Director (29% in 2022)

Satisfaction with Care Director training went up compared to 2022:

  • 37% completely satisfied (19% in 2022, 35% in 2019)
  • 43% partially satisfied (45% in 2022, 53% in 2019)
  • 21% not very satisfied (36% in 2022, 13% in 2019)

Professional Development

84% agree there are relevant opportunities to enable me to meet their CPD needs

87% of Social workers say their learning & development needs are mapped against the Professional Capabilities Framework

47% of OTs say their learning & development needs are mapped against the OT Post Qualifying Framework

82% said their training and development needs were identified through supervision and appraisal

89% agreed that the training organised helps them to understand and meet the needs of service users and carers

85% said that the training they attend is challenging, engaging and of good quality and helps their practice

67% agreed that their induction prepared them for their specific role in the Council

Caseloads

65% of staff say their caseload is fair and manageable (73% in 2022, 81% in 2019, 43% in 2017)

Supervision

Supervision takes place frequently.  83% say supervision takes place monthly or most months

51% said that supervision sessions never or rarely get postponed or cancelled (69% in 2022)

84% of respondents have had an appraisal in the past year (88% in 2022, 86% in 2019)

73% are completely or to a greater extent satisfied with the quality of supervision (84% in 2022, 80% in 2019, 69% in 2017)

61% get opportunity in their supervision for reflection and emotional support and 77% discussion of learning and development (73% & 78% in 2022, 65% in 2019)

38% get coaching or mentoring opportunities (51% in 2022, 29% in 2019)

81% respondents are completely or to a greater extend satisfied with the support received from line managers/supervisors where they have complex cases (92% in 2022)

61% have never or only once or twice needed to make an important decision regarding a case and have not been able to access support (73% in 2022)

On a score from 0 to 10, with 10 extremely confident and 0 not confident at all, the average confidence rating was 8, and over half (57%) scored themselves 8 or higher.

These are the findings of the Adult Social Care Organisation Healthcheck. The Survey was last undertaken in 2019.

  • 83 respondents (92 in 2019, 80 in 2017); 34 (41%) social care professionals, 32 (39%) social workers, and 17 (20%) occupational therapists.
  • Over half (52%) have worked in the Council for over 10 years.13% are new employees with less than two years' service (27% in 2019) and 20% with 2-5

  • 53% said their training and development needs were identified through supervision and appraisal.
  • 63% agreed that the training organised helps them understand and meet the needs of service users and carers.
  • 62% agreed that the training attended is challenging, engaging, good quality and helps practice.
  • 51% agreed that their induction prepared them for their specific role in the Council.

These are the findings of the 2017-2018Adult Social Care Organisation Healthcheck.

  • 80 respondents; 30 social care professionals, 40 social workers, and 10 occupational therapists.
  • Almost two-thirds (65%) have worked in the Council for over ten years. In contrast, only 6% are new employees with less than two years' service. The vast majority of respondents (95%) are on permanent contracts.
  • 9 in 10 respondents agree with the statement "I have access to best practice, research and evidence materials."

  • Staff spent around 65-70% of time inputting data into Care Director on a typical day (mean 65%, mode 70%). However, there was a large variation in responses from 0% - 100%.
  • Most respondents were satisfied with the Care Director training they received (Completely 30%, partially 35%, Not very 10%)

CPD opportunities

  • 71% of staff agree there are relevant opportunities to enable them to meet their CPD needs.
  • 80% of social workers say their learning and development needs are mapped to the Professional Capabilities Framework.
  • 14% of qualified occupational therapists say their needs are mapped to the OT post-qualifying framework.

  • Just 17% of respondents say they know who's who in the People Leadership Team.
  • In contrast, 86% know and recognise the Adults Principal Social Worker.
