Advanced EAL learners are learners who are working within DfE English proficiency levels C and D.  They may have had all or most of their education in the UK and oral proficiency in English is usually indistinguishable from that of pupils with English as a first language.

The National Strategies resource contains useful advice and strategies (2009). They benefit both advanced EAL learners and monolingual English speakers to develop their academic literacy skills.
