EAL and SEN Pathway

English as an additional language (EAL) needs should not be confused with Special Educational Needs (SEN). However, some learners who use EAL may have additional educational needs. Specific learning needs can be difficult to distinguish in bilingual/plurilingual learners. This process has been mapped out to support staff working with EAL learners who they suspect may have additional educational needs.

A working party from Educational Psychology, Social Emotional and Mental Health and Learning , Early Years SEND and EMAS teams in Coventry have created a pathway to help schools identify additional learning needs in their learners who use EAL.
