Property assessment for immigration purposes

In order to process any application for immigration, the Government require confirmation that the property is fit for human habitation and will not become overcrowded. The council is able to provide an inspection service to satisfy this requirement. There is a charge for this service which is currently £145.

An officer will be required to visit the property in order to make the assessment. In order to assist an officer in making that assessment, we require information to be submitted online using the below form.

We also require a copy of a gas safety certificate for the property which shows that all of the gas appliances in the property have been assessed as safe to use. The certificate must have been issued within the past 12 months by a suitably qualified Gas Safe Registered engineer. A copy of the report can be attached to the online form. Copies of reports sent by post cannot be returned.

How to pay

Online assessment form

Once you have; completed the online Assessment Form, submitted a copy of the Gas Safety Certificate and paid the required fee, an officer will be allocated to inspect the property and will contact you to arrange the visit. We aim to arrange the inspection within 10 days of all of the information being received.

If however, your papers are required urgently, then a private Environmental Health Officer hired via a solicitor should be able to provide this service for you. Any costs incurred would be a private arrangement between you and your solicitor.
