Coventry Alternative Provision

Coventry Alternative Provision (CAP) is part of Coventry City Council’s Education Entitlement and Enrichment Service. We work closely with schools and academies across the city to make sure that children and young people have access to high-quality, supportive education options when mainstream school isn’t the right fit for them at a particular time.

Our goal is to help schools find the best possible alternative education settings—known as Alternative Provision (AP)—for students who need extra support. These settings are carefully checked and monitored to make sure they meet high standards and provide a safe, positive learning environment.

We encourage schools to use CAP when arranging Alternative Provision. This ensures that the education providers they work with meet both local and national expectations. If a school arranges AP on its own, outside of CAP, we cannot guarantee the same level of quality or oversight.

Through our Graduated Model, we offer a wide range of courses and support options that help schools provide a broad and balanced curriculum. All of our partner providers have been thoroughly assessed and approved by Coventry City Council.

We understand that every child is different. That’s why we take a person-centred approach, tailoring support to meet each student’s individual needs.

Our model includes three levels of support:

  1. Outreach Support – Help available to students in mainstream schools.
  2. Time-Limited Intensive Placements – Short-term placements in alternative settings to help students get back on track.
  3. Transitional Placements - longer term placements for pupils who need support to move on to a new school or sustained POST 16 destination

Each level is designed to provide the right help, at the right time, in the right place—so that every young person has the best chance to succeed.
