How to set up a Direct Debit or amend your existing Direct Debit details
You must be registered for Council Tax before signing up to pay by Direct Debit.
If you have recently moved and not yet told us, please complete our online change of address form.
Sign up to pay your Council Tax bill by Direct Debit online
You will need your:
- Council Tax customer reference number
- Bank sort code
- Bank account number.
If you are setting up a Direct Debit, we will send you a new bill when this has been done so please continue to make your payments as usual until then.
If you are amending existing Direct Debit details we will send you a bill to confirm when this has been done. Payments will continue to be collected from your existing account until your direct debit details have been changed.
If you have arrears or have had two failed direct debit payments within a financial year, your direct debit application will be rejected and a cash bill will be issued to you.

We accept all major credit/debit cards except for American Express and Diners cards.
Problems paying your Council Tax online?
Have you tried to pay and got a ‘Your customer reference number is incorrect’ message? You can check your account balance easily online.
If your balance says £0, you don’t need to contact us. Your Council Tax payments are up to date and you will receive your new bill in March detailing your payments. If it shows that you owe us money, then please call us.

Pay by our 24 hour automated telephone line
Telephone 024 7678 7778. You will need your Council Tax customer reference number. If you do not have this, then please contact the Council Tax team.

Bank account
If you have a bank account, you can pay at your local branch (except HSBC). Take your Council Tax bill, debit payment card and quote your Council Tax customer reference number.
