Making a planning application

COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Due to the current circumstances around COVID-19 and the latest government advice, the planning department is enacting its responsibilities under social distancing and as a result looking to limit the need for site visits. This is particularly important in the cases of householder planning applications. As a result, officers will be seeking appropriate up to date photographs of the application property. We will be providing suitable guidance to help indicate exactly where these photos should be provided for, but in the interim applicants are requested to submit a range of photographs showing various aspects of the property as part of any new application. Where an application is already submitted, the case officer may contact you to request this information. Without these photos the determination of your application will be delayed until such time as a site visit can be undertaken.

In Coventry, 96% of applications are made online and we recommend that you make your planning application through the Planning Portal.

Registration is easy and you can complete your application form, upload supporting documents and pay fees online.

The benefits of applying online include:

  • Immediate delivery and acknowledgement
  • Savings on postage and printing costs
  • Online help when completing applications
  • Online record of your applications
  • Online payment

If you prefer, you can complete your application form online and send in supporting documents and fees by post.

Please note a planning application cannot be progressed until all the information and the fee has been received

Please make sure you have read the national requirements and local requirements and submit all the information with your application.

You can complete and submit the Application Form from the Planning Portal website.

How much will my planning application cost?

Every application must be accompanied by the correct fee. The Government sets the Planning Application Fees for the country.

Please be careful to check that your proposal does require planning permission and that the fee you pay is correct as any refunds are subject to a £35 administration fee.
