Welcome to CAP

Coventry Alternative Provision

What is CAP?

CAP stands for Coventry Alternative Provision. It’s part of Coventry City Council, and it’s here for young people who might find mainstream school isn’t working out right now. Whether things feel overwhelming, you’re struggling to focus, or you just need a different kind of learning space—CAP helps you find what works for you.

What does CAP do?

CAP works with schools to find alternative places to learn—places that are safe, supportive, and designed to help you succeed. These aren’t just classrooms—they’re spaces where you can build confidence, learn new skills, and feel more like yourself.

Some of the options include:

  • Outdoor learning – great for mental health, confidence, and hands-on skills.
  • Therapeutic support – for anyone dealing with anxiety, trauma, or emotional challenges.
  • Specialist programmes – like Flourish, designed for students with ADHD, autism, or social/emotional needs.
  • Personal development courses – build life skills and earn qualifications in things like outdoor education.
  • Work-based learning – like forestry or carpentry, to help you prepare for a future career.

Why might someone go to CAP?

You might be referred to CAP if you:

  • Need extra help with learning
  • Feel overwhelmed in a big classroom
  • Are struggling with behaviour or emotions
  • Want a fresh start in a new environment

CAP helps your school find the right fit for you—so you can feel supported, understood, and ready to move forward.

How does CAP support you?

CAP offers four levels of support, depending on what you need:

  1. Universal support – help available to all students in mainstream schools.
  2. Targeted early help – extra support when things start to feel tough.
  3. Short-term placements – a different learning space for a short time to help you reset.
  4. Long-term placements – a new learning path that gives you time and space to grow.

What makes CAP different?

  • CAP doesn’t believe in one-size-fits-all. It’s about finding what works for you.
  • Every learning space CAP works with is safe, caring, and high-quality.
  • CAP helps you build confidence, discover your strengths, and take steps toward your future.
