Welcome to CAP

What is CAP?

CAP stands for Coventry Alternative Provision. It’s part of Coventry City Council, and it’s here for young people who might find mainstream school isn’t working out right now. Whether things feel overwhelming, you’re struggling to focus, or you just need a different kind of learning space—CAP helps you find what works for you.

What does CAP do?

CAP works with schools to find alternative places to learn—places that are safe, supportive, and designed to help you succeed. These aren’t just classrooms—they’re spaces where you can build confidence, learn new skills, and feel more like yourself.

Some of the options include:

  • Outdoor learning – great for mental health, confidence, and hands-on skills.
  • Therapeutic support – for anyone dealing with anxiety, trauma, or emotional challenges.
  • Specialist programmes – like Flourish, designed for students with ADHD, autism, or social/emotional needs.
  • Personal development courses – build life skills and earn qualifications in things like outdoor education.
  • Work-based learning – like forestry or carpentry, to help you prepare for a future career.

Why might someone go to CAP?

You might be referred to CAP if you:

  • Need extra help with learning
  • Feel overwhelmed in a big classroom
  • Are struggling with behaviour or emotions
  • Want a fresh start in a new environment

CAP helps your school find the right fit for you—so you can feel supported, understood, and ready to move forward.

How does CAP support you?

CAP offers four levels of support, depending on what you need:

  1. Universal support – help available to all students in mainstream schools.
  2. Targeted early help – extra support when things start to feel tough.
  3. Short-term placements – a different learning space for a short time to help you reset.
  4. Long-term placements – a new learning path that gives you time and space to grow.

What makes CAP different?

  • CAP doesn’t believe in one-size-fits-all. It’s about finding what works for you.
  • Every learning space CAP works with is safe, caring, and high-quality.
  • CAP helps you build confidence, discover your strengths, and take steps toward your future.

Have your say

CAP Student Voice: your experience matters

At Coventry Alternative Provision (CAP), we know that education isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every student has a story, a journey, and a voice that deserves to be heard. That’s why Student Voice is at the heart of everything we do.

Whether you’ve taken part in outdoor learning, joined a therapeutic programme, or found your confidence in a new setting—your experience helps shape the future of CAP.

What Is Student Voice?

Student Voice means you get to share your thoughts, ideas, and feedback about your learning experience. It’s about making sure your opinions are listened to—and acted on.

CAP uses student voice to:

  • Improve the quality of alternative provision
  • Create new programmes that reflect real student needs
  • Make sure every learning space is welcoming, inclusive, and empowering

Real stories, real impact

Here’s what some students have said about their time with CAP:

“I used to feel like I didn’t fit in anywhere. CAP helped me find a place where I could be myself and still learn.”
– Year 10 Student

“The outdoor learning gave me space to think. I didn’t realise how much I needed that until I had it.”
– Year 11 Student

“I felt heard for the first time. My ideas actually mattered.”
– Post-16 Learner

These voices aren’t just inspiring—they’re helping CAP grow and evolve.

How can you get involved?

There are lots of ways to share your voice:

  • Fill out a feedback form after your placement
  • Join a student focus group or CAP forum
  • Create a video, blog, or artwork about your experience
  • Talk to your CAP MO or school lead about what’s working—and what could be better

Whether you want to speak up, write it down, or show it through creativity—your voice counts.

Why it matters

When you share your experience, you’re helping:

  • Future students feel more supported
  • CAP staff understand what works best
  • Schools make better decisions for learners like you

You’re not just part of the system—you’re helping shape it.

Your journey, your voice

CAP is here to help you find your path. And your voice helps make that path clearer for others too.

So speak up. Share your story. Help us build a better future—together.
