Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs)
We are currently receiving a high volume of applications, as well as contact via email and by phone. Due to this increase, you may experience longer than expected waiting times for your application to be processed or your query to be answered. Please bear with us and only contact us if it is absolutely necessary as we are working hard to reduce our backlog.
If you cannot afford to pay your rent you may be able to claim extra help from the Council. This extra help is called Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs). The Council has a limited amount of money for paying out DHPs so we will not be able to pay every claim. Our main priorities are to help prevent people from becoming homeless and to ease financial pressure for vulnerable people who live in Coventry.
Who can claim a Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP)?
To be able to make a claim you must be a resident of Coventry and must be getting:
- Housing Benefit, or
- Universal Credit with an award for rent costs
