We are hoping to be provide some limited services this term when/if schools begin a phased reopening and that all services will be available from September.

When are we open?

  • Monday to Thursday: 9.00am to 5.00pm
  • Friday: 9.00am to 4.30pm 

Sessions outside these hours are available by prior arrangement.

The Schools Library and Resource Service is open during school holidays - please telephone for details.

Primary Schools

The Subscription Service includes: 2 books per capita Annual Loan or 200 items, whichever is the greater (to qualify for the minimum loan a school must use their whole school number on roll). Full exchange once per year, partial exchange by arrangement.

Secondary Schools

1.5 books per capita Annual Loan or 150 items, whichever is the greater (to qualify for the minimum loan a school must use their whole school number on roll). Full exchange once per year, partial exchange by arrangement.

The standard package includes:

Full term Project Loan collections: 

  • 0-150 pupils = 4 projects          
  • 151-250 pupils = 7 projects
  • 251-350 pupils = 14 projects
  • 351-550 pupils = 21 projects
  • 551+ pupils = 28 projects

Vouchers are issued annually (in April) and will be valid until the end of the following academic year (July). This allows you to use them over 4 terms.

If you require further project vouchers these are available at a discounted price of £55 per voucher.

Artefact Loan membership for ALL teaching staff

This entitles each member of staff to loans of up to 4 resource items for 3 weeks. Please go to the Artefact Loan page for further details.

1 hour Advisory Visit per annum

  • A discount if you require extra Advisory Work
  • Access to free telephone and email advice.

Schools may choose the level at which they wish to subscribe, e.g. a school may subscribe for only a proportion of the pupils on the school's roll.

E-Book Lending Platform (Secondary Schools only)

A minimum of 30 logins (if buying in for full number on roll) plus 1 login for every 5 additional pupils above 100 (i.e. if buying in for 800 pupils you would receive 170 individual user logins).

Do you need help managing your SLS subscription? 

The Subscription Plus package for Primary Schools includes:

You will receive the same level of resource service as the standard subscription package (bulk annual loan for your school library, termly project collections, unlimited artefact loans and 1-hour advisory visit). However, you will also have SLS to manage the whole annual loan exchange for you, with specialist education librarians to select your loan and catalogue them for you on to your library computer system. This can be a very cost-effective solution compared to releasing school staff from their other duties.

To support Reading for Pleasure in your school and increase reader engagement you will also get a year's subscription to our Reading Update Service and 2 Coventry Inspiration Book Awards sets. You can choose which sets you would like to have from the 3 different Primary categories and the termly Reading Update notes can be shared with all teachers in the school to help keep them up to date with current children's books.  

Subscription Plus Gold

Developing a strong reading for pleasure culture in your school is now a vital part of any literacy strategy. To help you achieve this for an additional cost you can upgrade your Plus to include the Reading for Pleasure Package which gives you in addition to the termly Reading Update service 25 new books delivered at the beginning of each term selected by our specialist librarians from the Reading Update lists (from the end of the previous term) to add to your school library (the books are purchased for the school to keep they are not on loan) to keep your fiction collection up to date, relevant and diverse. The books selected will reflect a range of reading abilities and tastes and offer your students a wider choice of reading for pleasure material than just the standard best seller books and celebrity authors.

In addition to support the CPD of your school Librarian the Plus package includes a year's subscription to the Secondary Librarian Forum meetings (6 a year).

Subscription Plus package for less than 800 then you will also have the Termly Reading Update Service - A termly update on the latest fiction and non-fiction titles which have been reviewed and recommended by the professional children’s librarians at SLS. Includes 1 meeting each term + all supporting paperwork 

If you buy the Subscription Plus Package for more than 800 pupils then instead of just the Termly Reading Update service you will receive a you will also receive

a year's subscription to our Reading for Pleasure Silver Package which includes: 

Termly Reading Update Service - A termly update on the latest fiction and non-fiction titles which have been reviewed and recommended by the professional children’s librarians at SLS. Includes 1 meeting each term + all supporting paperwork 

Plus 25 new books delivered at the beginning on each term selected by our specialist librarians from the Reading Update lists (from the end of the previous term) to add to your school library (the books are purchased for the school to keep they are not on loan) to keep your fiction collection up to date, relevant and diverse. The books selected will reflect a range of reading abilities and tastes and offer your students a wider choice of reading for pleasure material than just the standard best seller books and celebrity authors.

3 sets of Coventry Inspiration Book Awards (24 books plus supporting material). Secondary's receive 1 set each of Hooked on Books (KS3), Simply the Book (KS4) and Rapid Reads.
