About speech, language and communication

Children putting hands up in class

We want every child and young person who lives in Coventry to be supported to reach their full potential with speech, language and communication.

Speech, language and communication encompasses various competencies involved in communication in children and young people. These can include forming sounds and words, formulating sentences, speaking fluently and coherently to express themselves, understanding what others say, and using language socially.

Across health, education, and social care teams are working together to support a young person’s speech, language and communication. Information about services to support and help children’s communication is outlined in our directory of services.

Information on courses and training available to support children’s communication for practitioners can also be on these pages.
