Coventry Alternative Provision (CAP)

Coventry Alternative Provision (CAP) is a well-established service within Coventry Local Authority, operating as part of the Education Entitlement and Enrichment Service. CAP is dedicated to ensuring that schools and academies across Coventry have access to a high-quality and diverse range of Alternative Provision (AP) options. We work closely with educational settings to support the successful placement of students, while rigorously quality-assuring all provisions through a robust quality framework.

Our service helps schools and academies gain a comprehensive understanding of the value and impact of Alternative Provision. We embed high standards and best practices into every aspect of our delivery, ensuring consistency and excellence across the board.

We strongly recommend that schools and academies access AP through Coventry Alternative Provision. Our established framework ensures that all training providers operate in line with both local and national guidance.

Please note that CAP does not assume responsibility or accountability for any AP placements arranged independently by schools or academies outside of our framework.

Through the Coventry Alternative Provision Graduated Model, we offer a wide range of courses that support schools in delivering a broad and balanced curriculum. All training providers partnered with CAP have successfully completed Coventry City Council’s rigorous procurement process, demonstrating their ability to meet the service’s high standards.

Recognising the growing demand for Alternative Provision, CAP is committed to maintaining a responsive and inclusive offer. We adopt a person-centred approach, aiming to enhance each student’s educational experience through tailored support.

Our Multi-Agency Graduated Model operates across four tiers (Tiers 1 to 4), providing a structured pathway designed to help young people remain in mainstream education wherever possible. This model includes:

• Universal Support
• Targeted Early Intervention
• Time-Limited Intensive Placements 
• Preventative Placements 

Each tier is designed to deliver the right support, in the right place, at the right time—ensuring that every student receives the support they need based on their assessed needs.
