There will be elections on 2 May 2024 for the Combined Authority Mayor, Police and Crime Commissioner and City Council elections.
For the City Council 18 out of the 54 seats will be up for election.
All electors who are currently registered and are eligible to vote will receive a poll card between 21 - 29 March 2024. Anyone who registers after this time will receive a poll card after 25 April.
Whether you vote by post or at a polling station, you will receive three ballot papers:
- the ballot paper for the City Council will be lilac (a pale purple)
- the ballot paper for the Mayoral election will be yellow
- the ballot paper for the Police and Crime Commissioner election will be green.
If you've recently moved or turned 18, you may not be registered. You can register at www.gov.uk/registertovote.
If you wish to vote at the polling station you will be required to show an accepted form of photographic ID before being issued with a ballot paper, to find out more information on what forms of ID are accepted or on how to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate visit our information webpage
If you are unable to attend the polling station, you can apply to vote by post. Alternatively, you could apply for a proxy vote.
Voting
- Polls will be open on 2 May from 7am - 10pm.
- Details of your polling station will be on your poll card which you will receive between 21-29 March 2024.
- Every registered voter will receive two poll cards this year due to the late confirmation of the Police and Crime Commissioner elections taking place. This meant the Returning Officer was not able to combine the poll card for all the elections taking place but has a legal duty to send a poll card advising electors of the elections which are happening on 2 May, which is the reason for the second poll card.
Results
The results will be published on the website as they are declared at the count which will take place on 3 May.
Also published on the website after the count will be the turnout by ward by polling station. This will include the electorate allocated to each station and the number of postal votes returned for each ward.
A live stream from the count at CBS Arena will be available to view on 3 May.
There will also be a live stream of the declarations of results.
This year the following will also be published on our website:
- The number of polling station electors who applied for, but were not issued with, a ballot paper
- The number of polling station electors who were not issued with a ballot paper and who later returned with accepted ID and were issued with a ballot paper
