Household bins

We want to keep Coventry clean and a place you love to live. You’ve told us that fly tipping is one of the things that bothers you most.

Thanks to additional funding from a fairer Government settlement extra cash has been allocated to help clean up the city and help local people to manage their waste better. 

One of the things that we are doing is helping people in some areas of the city where there are high levels of fly tipping. We will be visiting some streets and collecting items that are too big or that can’t be put in your wheelie bins.

If your street is included in the Tip to You initiative you will receive a letter telling you when we are coming with a list of what we can take and 6 stickers.

The items we can take are:

• white goods - items like washing machines, fridges, and freezers
• soft furnishings - items like sofas, tables, chairs, and cabinets
• small electrical items like toasters and kettles
• black bags of rubbish
• mattresses

The stickers are for you to put on the items you would like us to take. The letter will tell you the day we will be coming to your street.

 We cannot take the following items:

• hazardous waste like chemicals, paint, asbestos or nos bottles / canisters
• commercial or trade waste
• running machines or gym equipment
• DIY – fixtures and fittings - such as doors, window units, bathroom suites, kitchen units, fireplaces or surrounds and flooring
• garden waste
• car parts such as tyres
• fence panels and  bundles of wood

Bulky waste:

We will collect 5 items of waste for a fee, saving you time going to the tip for example. This can be booked online or if you need help via our customer services team by calling 08085 834333.

The Tip:

You can book a time to go and take some of your unwanted items  to our Recycling Centre on Bar Road. This can be booked online Recycling and disposal centre (the tip) – Coventry City Council or via our customer services team by calling 08085 834333.
