Graduated model of support
The graduated mode of support covers:
- Tier 1: universal support
- Tier 2: targeted support
- Tier 3: time-limited support
- Tier 4: transitional support
However, for the purposes of this operational guidance only tiers 1 to 3 will be covered.
The model assists schools to provide a diverse alternative provision offer as part of a broad and balanced curriculum supporting children and young people to flourish through:
- character, education and personal development
- bespoke core curriculum and functional skill qualifications
- vocational based qualifications and awards
At Key Stage (KS) 3 the focus is on aspiration, prevention, intervention, allowing continued access to mainstream. At KS4 the focus is on aspiration, next steps, and transition to Post-16 destinations.
