Alcohol awareness
This two-hour course will benefit delegates who encounter alcohol issues in their work.
Target group
All members of staff who have contact with people with alcohol problems.
Outcomes of the course
Delegates will be given the opportunity to examine the facts and fiction behind alcohol use, and, in doing so, challenge unhelpful stereotypes of drinkers. This course also covers the effects of hazardous alcohol use in addition to introducing contemporary approaches to treatment interventions.
The study topics include
- Identify the impact that hazardous drinking has on the individual, others and society at large
- Be aware of stereotypes and myths about drinking and drinkers
- Clarify factual information about alcohol and its effects
- Develop an understanding of how people change
- Identify techniques which can be used to raise the issue and engage people with alcohol problems with the appropriate services
