NCS: What Employers Really Look for in a CV? - Wednesday 14 January from 10am to 12pm

ATS? Applicant Tracking? A.I? If all these are terms that are blowing your mind, then book in to the CV workshop by the National Careers Service where you will gain confidence in how to ‘beat’ applicant systems in 2026! This comprehensive groupwork covers how to write a CV but heavily focuses on upskilling knowledge around Applicant Tracking Systems and the use of A.I when writing and managing your CV. 

Job Shop: Coventry City Council Job Application Session - Thursday 15 January from 12:30pm to 2pm

This session is tailored for customers who are interested in applying CCC Assessor - Adult Education 

An informal workshop with a presentation designed to help customers complete Coventry City Council applications.

Working together in a small group, we will provide a focused and supportive environment for candidates to learn about how an application form should be completed for Coventry City Council. This also includes Coventry City Council Values.  

We will provide feedback, hints and tips on how to complete a good application form.  We recognise that job hunting can be a lonely environment.  Group members can share their own experiences and will be encouraged and motivated to feel confident in themselves in upcoming interviews. 

This workshop is suitable for your candidates looking to either currently applying or are ready to apply for jobs in Coventry City Council.  

Get Ready! English Course for Council Application - Friday 16 January from 12:30pm to 2:30pm

  • After the success of the last course in Oct 2025, most of the learners have been offered multiple council interviews and some have been offered a job
  • Contents: Business English, Personal statement and essay style writing ,Jargons of council policies, Interview preparation. Tips for a successful shortlisting, interview scoring and job offer.
  • The course is designed for migrants with at least intermediate level of English in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking 
  • IT literate
  • It comes with a Work Experience placement in or outside the Job Shop

Course dates: Friday 16, Tuesday 20, Friday 23, Tuesday 27 and Friday 30 January 2026. You must be able to attend all 5 days.

Time: 12:30pm to 2:30pm

AES: Skills to Success Awareness session - Friday 30 January from 10am to 12pm

5 day Tailored Support Programme on Monday 2, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 4, Friday 6 and Monday 9 February

Overview of course:

This unique 5-day course is designed to help you discover your strengths, build essential skills, and boost your confidence.

During the course you’ll explore self-awareness, teamwork, communication, transferable skills, mindfulness, and wellbeing. You’ll also gain valuable insights into living in modern multicultural Britain, equality, diversity, and inclusivity, as well as workplace etiquette and the core values of democracy, tolerance, and mutual respect.

This course will connect you with others and help prepare you for the world of work.

AES: Essential Skills Assessment: Maths, English and Digital, know your level - every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30am to 11:30am

What is an initial assessment in English, Maths and digital?

An initial assessment is a way to check what you already know and what you need to learn before starting a new course or training.

  1. Purpose: To find out your current knowledge and skills.
  2. Methods: A number of questions taken on a computer.
  3. Benefits: Helps tutors create a learning plan just for you.

RISE Resilience, Insight, Social skills and Emotional Regulation workshop - every Tuesday from 3pm to 4pm 

The RISE workshops will cover the important topics of Resilience, Insight, Social Skills, and Emotional regulation as they relate to gaining employment and staying in employment.

The aims of these workshops are as follows:

  • to increase resilience in a challenging employment landscape
  • to gain insight into one’s automatic pattern of thoughts, feelings, behaviours that may be self-sabotaging and maladaptive, and to facilitate changes that are more in keeping with a growth mindset (as opposed to fixed mindset)
  • to enhance one’s social skills so one can navigate the workplace and other social situations

To understand the importance of emotional regulation and ways of reframing and managing aversive (negative) emotions in a more positive and 

After the workshops, the anticipated outcomes are:

  • immediate use of psychological tools that can be used to enhance resilience, insight, social skills, and emotional regulation
  • facilitate increased cognitive flexibility and adaptability in a rapidly changing employment market, and to understand that one has a lot more agency and control than they think
  • Understanding the importance of habit, attention, focus, and goal setting
  • to instil a sense of optimism and confidence amongst attendees so they can proceed with further training, courses, and apply for jobs with more confidence, all via the job shop

AES: CV writing and job searching support (Digital Skills) - every Thursday from 1pm to 3pm

The purpose of the CV Writing & Job Searching Session is to support you in your journey into work, study or further training.

The Essential Skills team can facilitate sessions on accessing the internet, sending and receiving emails, creating CVs and carrying out online job searches.

It is recommended by Adult Education, to get maximum benefit of the support available and work towards a qualification, you are encouraged to attend 2 consecutive sessions where possible. 

Please choose the timeslot i.e. 1pm to 2pm or 2pm to 3pm, only 4 people will be allowed for each timeslot.

AES: Jobs & Skills Club - every Thursday from 10am to 2pm

The Adult Education team are bringing skills and training to you alongside 1-1 employment support from the Job Shop Employment Coaches, giving you skills and support you need on your employment journey.  No need to book, just drop in!

50+ MOT - every Thursday from 11:30 - 1pm

St Francis Employability 1 to 1 appointment - Fortnightly on Wednesdays from 9:30am to 2:30pm

St Francis Employability will be in the Job Shop fortnightly on Wednesdays to offer 1:1 appointments for customers interested in the courses they provide, including:

  • Customer Service

  • Driving Theory

  • ESOL Employability

  • Food Hygiene

  • Health & Safety

  • IT

Coventry Citizens Advice Bureau 1 - 1 Appointment - every 4 weeks from 11am to 1pm

This is an initial appointment to register with the service, discuss the customers immediate need. Advice may be given on the day of a subsequent face to face or telephone appointment will be arranged thereafter. 

Benefits Entitlement & Support – advice to ensure clients are receiving all eligible benefits and grants.

Energy Cost Reduction – How to lower energy bills through efficiency, switching suppliers, and accessing support schemes.

Debt Management – Strategies to manage outgoings, prioritise payments, and improve financial resilience – action referral to Debt at Coventry citizens Advice.

Local & National Support Services – Signposting to relevant organisations, funding, and advice channels should further assistance be required.

Action Planning & Next Steps – Empowering clients with tailored advice and practical steps to improve their financial situation to maximise income.
