What is a Supported Internship?
A supported internship is a one-year programme for students with special educational needs . Students complete their internship in a real workplace with the support of a job coach and department mentor . Interns also attend daily classroom sessions that focus on employability and independent living skills. These sessions are delivered onsite at the host business. The programme helps young people to successfully transition into adult life and work towards full-time, paid employment with support from a team of Job Coaches from Coventry City Council’s Job Shop.
Who is it for?
Applicants should:
- Have a current Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
- Be 18 to 24 years old
- Be a resident of Coventry City Council Have the desire and motivation to achieve paid employment
- Be able to travel independently or willing to learn independent travel skills
Our goal:
Help you move into paid employment by the end of the programme. Continue supporting you even after you start work, if and when you need it.
Learn while you work!
If you haven’t yet achieved your Maths and English qualifications, don’t worry we’ve got you covered. You’ll attend classes one day a week to work your Maths and English. The other four days will be spent gaining real-world experience through a supported internship.
