Supporting housing growth to meet local needs
Performance reflections
The tax base continues to increase. In 2025 to 2026, the actual number of taxable domestic properties in Coventry increased from 154,068 to 154,716. The tax base is usually expressed in terms of the number of equivalent Band D properties, net of discounts and exemptions, and represents our yield from council tax.
In 2025 to 2026, our number of band D equivalents was 90,062.6 - having increased from 87,734.0 in 2024 to 2025. In 2025 to 2026, the collectible income from council tax was £227 million.
The indicator figure of 116.42 for 2025 to 2026 is an index figure, expressing the Council Tax Base compared to its level in 2009 – meaning it is now 16.42% higher now than in 2009. Being higher than the average amongst a group of similar local authority areas, the CIPFA near neighbour average of 115.31, indicates the Coventry Tax base has grown by more than average in that period– although not quite as much as the national average increase.
Planning permission is in place for an additional net 11,800 dwellings over the next 10 years.
