Reducing waste and increasing recycling

Performance reflections

The new waste education team are now in place, they will be working with the recycling collection teams, the communications team, and residents to reduce the amount of contamination currently being put into the blue bins. Also, they will be door knocking and helping to get our new food waste service up and running. They have a plan to visit community groups to try and encourage hard to reach communities and ensure they are aware of the opportunities to recycle.

This year we will also introduce 'Simpler recycling' trying to encourage more residents to recycle the easier things. CCC has identified the top 5 items that cause contamination and we will be informing the public of these as we go through the year.

Actions taken in year

New literature is being designed across all recycling themes, this will include posters, vehicles signs and leaflets, all spreading the same messages and themes. The Council Communications team can support the big part of the push on this and help to present a simple consistent message across all media.
