Cleaner, greener neighbourhoods
Performance reflections
Although the number of removed/partially removed fly-tipping incidents reported to DEFRA has increased, this may be due to campaigns encouraging the public to report. The number of fly-tipping referrals (incidents) increased this year, and reflected in the ‘Progress’ for this indicator, although it may be considered a positive thing that more reports are being encouraged.
More waste cases were investigated than the previous year. This data includes both proactive and reactive work with a wider scope than pure fly-tipping referrals (e.g. hot street patrols, Duty of Care inspections, unsightly land or property and refuse cases). Not all of these cases result in enforcement action, advice and warning letters are also strategies to improve compliance going forward.
Actions taken in year
Initiatives such as Bringing the Tip to You, focusing on areas identified as hot spots, aim to reduce the number of fly-tipping cases.
A restructure of the Neighbourhood Enforcement team with a targeted focus on wards is underway.
